January is a time to relax and rest after December. Enjoy time with a book and get ready for our future activities and our  “Thursday Evenings at the Library Presents” events…..

Feb

‘From steam engines to wildlife: how volunteering changed my life’ – Come along for a fascinating talk by Brian Pearce MBE from Railworld Wildlife Haven. Thursday 13th February, 7pm. Tickets £5 pp, includes refreshments.

World Book Day, music and under the sea!

Mar
World Book Day Celebration – Sat 8th 10-2.30pm. Come along in your world book day costume and take part in a parade. Have a go at our trail and take your picture in our selfie corner.
The Beauvale Ensemble – Join us for a small music quartet focusing on the poems of John Clare’s life. The poems are set to original music with a chat about John Clare in-between.
Thurs 20th March, 7pm. Tickets are £5pp including refreshments.
Storytelling and face painting – Sat 29th March. Join storyteller Captain Beth Barnacles for a wild and magical voyage over the salty seas! Can you help unpack her story and treasure chest – brimming with real life artefacts, tales of mermaids, sea monsters and extraordinary wild creatures? Book at the library – 4 sessions to choose from.
And we have a professional face painter and glitter artist here 10.30-2.30

A talk by Philip Gaches – plasterer of historic buildings

Thursday April 17th, 7pm. tickets £5 pp, includes refreshments

Sat 12th – Make an Easter card for a loved one. 10-2.30pm

Sat 19th – Easter Fun at the library. Meet the Easter bunny 10-1pm, help decorate a giant egg, have a go at our Easter egg trail and see if you can win one of our raffle baskets!

Evening talk and Star Wars fun

A Talk by Nassington Blueberry Farm – Come along and learn about this farming family, their background in arable farming, what made them choose blueberries and how they grow and package them. Tastings at the end. Fri 16th May, 7pm. Tickets are £5pp including refreshments.

Star Wars Day – May 3rd be with you! Ok, not quite, but join us on the Saturday for lots of Star Wars themed fun. 10-2.30pm

International Tea Day – Wed 21st 10-4pm. Come and have a cup of tea and a biscuit to celebrate tea day! Donations welcome.

Elmer Day – Sat 24th. Fun Elmer activities in the Junior library

Junk modelling – Get creative on Sat 31st 10-2.30pm

 

Fathers Day and #30 days wild

#30 days wild – Runs all of June to get you focused on the natural world outside your window. We’ll have various activities that you can take part in over the month.

Father’s Day – Get ready to celebrate with us on Sat June 14th

A talk by Andy Hallam ‘Pocket Park to Penfield’ – One for nature and wildlife lovers. Find out how a former gravel pit was rescued by local volunteers to become a nature reserve. Thursday 26th June, 7pm. Tickets £5pp, includes refreshments

The Summer Reading Challenge launches! July 5th brings the start of this year’s reading challenge. The theme is Story Garden, where imagination blossoms and stories grow! Come along and sign up to read 6 books over the holidays.

‘British Flowers – Earth kind growing and arranging’ : A talk and demonstration by Suffolk cut flower grower Jenna Walker from The Flowers at Lane End. Thursday July 10th, 7pm. tickets £5 pp includes refreshments.

Summer Reading Challenge, Barmpot Theatre and 'Brilliant Books'!

The Summer Reading Challenge is in full swing! It encourages children to read 6 books over the holidays with rewards along the way, so come along and join in.

Sun 3rd – Raft Race Day has the theme ‘Brilliant Books’ this year . We’ll be holding a book sale, cake stall and tombola for adults and children. All to raise funds for the library

Sat 30thBarmpot Theatre presents ‘To the moon and back’ – a wonderful 10 min puppet show about a mini barn owl with big dreams*. Five free shows throughout the day. We’ve partnered with SKDC who will be holding fantastic nature-themed crafts and activities, all as part of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. Perfect for children and families.

A talk on haunted pubs! – come along for a talk about haunted pubs in Peterborough. Thursday Oct 23rd at 7pm. Tickets £5pp including refreshments.

A talk by Prickleback Hedgehogs

Prickleback Urchin Hedgehog Rescue –  Come and listen to a wonderful talk from a hedgehog rescue, run by a husband and wife team based in Rutland. Learn more about how they help support the declining population of these amazing creatures. Wednesday 26th November, 7pm. Tickets £5pp, includes refreshments.
