summer reading challenge

Summer Reading Challenge Success!

This summer we held our annual reading challenge for children and teens with 438 children and teens taking part. we added an adult challenge this year and 100 adults signed up which was an incredible number for the first one. We had a huge 335 children and 51 adults finish and we issued over 9600 junior books during the summer months! The shelves sometimes looked a little empty and we even had books brought over from other libraries just to help us with stock!

Since it finished, our school ambassadors have been visiting schools to hand out certificates and medals and we had a wonderful donation of book tokens, awarded to 4 people drawn from the teen and adult entries. Well done to everyone who took part and made the summer so busy and fun at the library!

A talk with Donna from Riverside Beads

On September 24th, Donna came and gave a fascinating talk on Kumihimo braiding as well as about how she writes her craft books. 

Everyone really enjoyed the evening and got to take home a little something that they made.

Threads of Home

A Creative Fabric workshop took place on Saturday 26th September where attendees created banners inspired by their lives.

Shaz from The Red Cross shop ran the workshop and hopes to hold more in the future.

As we get used to Autum, Halloween is fast approaching. We’ll have lots of fun activities for half term including ‘Guess the weight of the pumpkin’ and a spooky storytime session. We’ll also have a Creepy Crafternoon on Firday 30th October at 2pm.

There will be a chance to win a hamper of goodies during the half term too!
